How To Create Page Previews Like Google Does

Google Page Previews

You might have noticed that Google now offers the option to get some “page previews” next to search listings. You might have also wondered how you could add such cool little things to your own websites or blogs so I’m writing this post to teach you how to do it :)

Page previews are basically what other people would normally call “website thumbnails” or “screenshots” of the remote web page. There’s several ways you can create screenshots like this.

8 Tools To Find & Manage Domains

May 06

In my last post, I shared some domain prefixes and suffixes that help find great available domain names so I thought I’d continue on this path of sharing some more tools that I’ve personally been using to find and manage my growing domain portfolio.

Searching for domains

InstantDomainSearch.com – Instant domain availability search
instant domain search
Of course you can search for domains in plenty of different places but a while ago I came across this website that gave me instant availability status as I typed, an ajax domain search.

Pretty cool, I find having instant feedback like that, allows me to find domain much more quickly than if I had to click a submit button and wait for  a page to load every time I wanted to check for a domain. When you see that perfect domain is taken, try adding one of your favorite domain prefix or suffix to it and instantly see the availability. It’s a huge time saver.

On another note, being a web developer, I always have a few ideas on doing things that could be added to websites I visit and it’s no different on how this site could improve.

I’d like to see it give out suggestions on alternative domain names when the one you have typed is not available, similar to how other sites give you alternative when the domain you searched for is taken.

Domain Prefixes & Suffixes To Help You Find Great Domains

May 05

Lately I’ve been wanting to get more into domaining (buying & selling domain names). I’ve had some success with selling domains in the past – by accident, people just came to me to buy some domains that I owned so it’s always been in the back of my mind to get in this business as a sideline. I enjoy searching for great brand-able new domains or great expired domains that people give up so it’s not really work for me, it’s fun :)

Good domains are harder and harder to come by however so I’ve been keeping a list of prefixes and suffixes to help me find some good domains over the years and I’d like to share them with you so that hopefully they’ll help you the next time you just can’t seem to find any available good domains (sometimes it feels like all the domains are taken doesn’t it? ).

Most of them can work as a prefix or suffix but sometimes it only works as one or the other, I’ll leave that up to you :)

It’s helped me over the years so hopefully you’ll also get some use out of it:

What is QuanSite?

Oct 02

QuanSiteThink of QuanSite as a team of people working for you. Not just regular people however, they’re connected to you. A natural extensions of yourself.

The Perfect Designer

The Designer follows your directions to the T, he gives you a bunch of initial designs to start with. You decide which you prefer. From there, you ask him to modify the header, the colors, move things around and modify this and that.

You can simply make a mock-up of what you’re looking for in Word or your favorite graphic program and he does it for you. Except he takes 0 seconds do to it because he’s directly connected to your brain :) As soon as you click and drag something in your  program to another area, it auto-magically happens on your site. If you choose to layout your page in familiar Word-like interface, the same thing happens.

If you wish to add some graphics, html or text anywhere within your site, he adds it instantly without having to dig into code. You’d like something appearing under that menu in the sidebar or how about under every blog post you make or above every page or wherever else. It’s fine, anything’s possible and instant with him!

What’s having an on-demand Designer like that worth to you?

On top of that, how much time would you save not having to convey your vision correctly to the designer. How much frustration would you save by not having to have him do revision after revision because he didn’t understand your vision correctly?
